How are Tower Cranes Dismantled after completing construction?

Just as there are more than one ways to build a tower crane there are also many ways to dismantle a tower crane. A crane can obviously not be transported in one piece. It would require some very long roads and impossible turns to do so. So what engineers do is that they build the crane in parts so that they can easily be assembled once they are at the construction site where they need to be used. Once they have been assembled and used they are then dismantled and transported back.

Most cranes are actually built of different parts that have been bolted together. In such a crane what the engineers have to do is start dismantling the crane. This can obviously be a very hard thing to do because cranes are very long structures. What usually happens is that the arm is removed first and then the pieces of the crane are removed one by one.

Just like there are self-erecting cranes, cranes sometimes also possess the ability to dismantle themselves. They work in reverse of the erection process and remove their own parts one by one. This makes the job much easier as the remaining parts can then be lifted by smaller cranes and carried over on different trucks.
