Parts of a Tower Crane

A tower crane consists of many different parts working together. The main parts are the lifting hook, pulleys, cables, jib, winch and the crane cab. The lifting hook is simply the hook from which things can be hung. The hook needs to be durable and in the right size in order to be of any use. A good hook is a necessary item for any crane being used. Next comes the pulley. The pulley is a mechanism which allows things to be lifted up and down. It works using cables and turning them at such an angle that things do not fall down once they are lifted.

Cables are also a very important part of the crane. A crane needs to have strong cables in order to ensure that it will be able to bear the load which it is picking up. Usually these are steel cables and sometimes even chains are used depending on the amount of weight the crane is supposed to lift. The jib is the part which allows the crane to move. The winch allows the crane to move the hook forward and backward along the arm in order to place things in the right area. The operator cab is the little cabin where the operator sits and controls the crane.
